All classes are currently meeting as scheduled. The Jewish Community Center's Department of Adult Jewish Learning offers a range of inspiring opportunities that enable adults to become confident and comfortable Jewish learners. The Adult Jewish Learning programs are available without membership to the Center. From monthly Feed Your Mind sessions to the ever-popular Melton Mini-School and accompanying graduate classes, quench your thirst for Jewish knowledge in a setting designed to appeal to adult learners-regardless of age, synagogue affiliation or Jewish knowledge. This program, recently launched by Jewish Family Services, may be the solution. Fall 2009 Adult Jewish Learning Brochure Jews - The Chosen People? Rabbi Kopans's topic, "Jews - The Chosen People?" will engage attendees by exploring several texts on what it means to be "Chosen" and discussing our perceptions and experiences of what chosenness means to contemporary Jews. Leigh Ann Kopans, a 2008 graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, is excited to join the Kansas City Jewish community after serving as the rabbi at the Ohio State University Hillel since 2008. Encouraging, facilitating, and participating in Jewish education is her passion, and she believes that every Jew brings words of Torah into the world. She and her husband, David (who is an attorney at Lathrop & Gage) settled in Kansas city just this summer with their three children, Asher, 3; Rami, 1 1/2; and Nesyah, 3 months. 'Day of Discovery' to Kick Off Year of Jewish Learning Take part in either an egalitarian or a traditional learner's minyan from 8:15-9:00. Registration and a continental breakfast begin at 8:45 a.m. Three study sessions will be offered throughout the day beginning at 9:30. Lunch is12:15 -1:00 p.m. and a dessert reception will conclude the day. The cost to participate in the "Day of Discovery" is $12 per person, which includes classes, continental breakfast and dessert. There is an additional charge of $6 per person for a Subway Kosher Deli box lunch, and for childcare. The program is co-sponsored by The Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City, Jewish Community Center's Department of Adult Jewish Learning, CAJE/Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City, Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy, and area congregations.
