Jews - The Chosen People?
Join the JCC's Department of Adult Jewish Learning as we welcome Rabbi Leigh Ann Kopans to our community, at a lunchtime "Feed Your Mind" event on Thursday, August 5, 12:15-1:45pm at the Jewish Community Center. There is no charge to attend this event, but please RSVP.

Rabbi Kopans's topic, "Jews - The Chosen People?" will engage attendees by exploring several texts on what it means to be "Chosen" and discussing our perceptions and experiences of what chosenness means to contemporary Jews.

Leigh Ann Kopans, a 2008 graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, is excited to join the Kansas City Jewish community after serving as the rabbi at the Ohio State University Hillel since 2008. Encouraging, facilitating, and participating in Jewish education is her passion, and she believes that every Jew brings words of Torah into the world. She and her husband, David (who is an attorney at Lathrop & Gage) settled in Kansas city just this summer with their three children, Asher, 3; Rami, 1 1/2; and Nesyah, 3 months.

They Were Just People: Holocaust Lessons for Today
Many have been moved by the remarkable and uplifting stories of Jews in Poland who survived the Holocaust with the help of their non-Jewish neighbors. Join Rabbi Jacques Cukierkorn and Bill Tammeus for a 3-part mini-course delving into their recently published book, “They Were Just People: Stories of Rescue in Poland During the Holocaust”. The course will focus on the rescuers, survival, life-shaping experience, and dilemmas in our own lives.
